What’s Involved in a Jeep® Vehicle Inspection?
Jeep® service is essential for several reasons. You might need a vehicle inspection when buying a new or used Jeep from our Schaumburg, IL Jeep dealership. The state of Illinois requires regular vehicle inspections, as well.
What’s involved in these inspections, and what do the technicians do? Zeigler Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM has put together this vehicle inspection guide to help you understand.
Elements of a Jeep Inspection
According to the Illinois DMV, most vehicles must have emissions testing every two years once the car is four years old. Some counties also require a smog check. We still recommend bringing your vehicle into our Chicago-area Jeep Service Center for regular inspections and maintenance, even if it’s not required.
Here are five things a technician will check during a vehicle inspection:
1. Windshield
Technicians will check the windshield for cracks, chips, or loose seals, posing safety hazards. Even small cracks or chips can impair your view and even threaten the integrity of the car’s structure.
2. Tires
Your tires will be checked for damaged and worn treads and ensure your tires are the same size and style. Technicians will even include inspecting your spare tire for damage.
3. Lights
A thorough vehicle inspection will include checking the headlights and high beams, brake lights, backup lights, emergency flashers, and turn signals. These systems contribute to your safety at night and during the day.
4. Steering and alignment
Technicians will inspect the steering and alignment systems to ensure nothing is loose, damaged, or failing. Alignments issues must be addressed before the vehicle can pass the inspections.
5. Fluids
Fluid leaks can pose serious safety hazards for any vehicle. Technicians will inspect all fluids, including brake, power steering, transmission, coolant/radiator, AC coolant, windshield washer wiper, and oil. They’ll also check the hoses that transfer fluids to those parts and systems.
