In Illinois, you may need more than one type of wiper blade throughout the year. For example, you may want a lighter wiper blade in the summer, and a more heavy-duty wiper blade in the winter. Here are some of the different types of wiper blades available for most cars and trucks.
Summer wiper blades are traditional blades that you see on most vehicles that consist of a triangle-shaped frame and a hardened rubber blade. Some blades come with two rubber strips instead of one. These blades are designed to be lightweight, wind-resistant, and ideal for typical rainy weather.
Premium beam-style wiper blades are designed to fit windshields that have a bigger curve than traditional windshields are usually made of one piece rather than multiple pieces like traditional blades. This allows for a clear, clean stroke. Their blades are usually made of more durable silicone rather than rubber.
Winter blades are designed for more durability when exposed to ice and snow on the windshield. They hold up to colder temperatures without breaking apart. Summer wipers will quickly break apart if they have to push aside snow or get frozen to the windshield.
The number one sign that you need new wiper blades is when you see streaking across your windshield whenever you use them. Some blades may streak if they are dirty, so if they still streak after you’ve clean them, then chances are that the blade is worn. Another sign of trouble is if your blade is stuttering and skipping as it moves across your windshield. If you look closely at a worn blade, you will also see pitting and cracks.
Even if it hasn’t rained or snowed for a while, run your windshield wipers with your windshield cleaner to check for any problems. It is vitally important that you don’t wait until a big storm to change your wiper blades. At Zeigler Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram of Schaumberg, IL, we have certified technicians who will examine your wipers and change them for you if needed. We even have a late night and full Saturday hours for your convenience.
