Your vehicle’s braking system is an integral component in your car, truck or SUV. The entire reason for an intricate brake system is to keep you, your family and other drivers on the road safe, by being able to stop your vehicle when you need to.
You may notice some signs that you need brake services, such as your car pulling to one side, a pulsating brake pedal when depressed, a clicking noise from the brakes or a high-pitched squealing sound. When you notice any of these or more than one at once, you should have your braking system inspected. Our certified technicians at Zeigler Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will inspect your entire braking system from the master cylinder in the engine compartment, all the brake lines and every component in the system to see if there is a part that is failing to do its job correctly.
Your vehicle’s brake pads are a key part of your braking system. When you depress the brake pedal, it sends the fluid from the master cylinder down the brake lines and to the brake rotors. The friction and pressure against your brake pads are what squeeze together to stop your car. Since brake pads use friction to work, a tiny bit of the pads is worn when you use them. Eventually, the brake pads are too thin to work properly and they need replacing.
Your brake rotors should have a smooth, flat and even surface to work with your brake pads properly. In time, your rotors will develop grooves in them, which don’t allow the brake pads to make good contact. You may notice a vibration that signifies you that your brake rotors are worn. If they are not worn down significantly, they can be resurfaced otherwise they will need to be replaced for your safety.
Your entire braking system in your vehicle is a closed system–meaning that it is sealed when all the parts are working properly so as not to leak brake fluid or let contaminants into the system. If you happen to have a small pinhole in any of the brake lines, it could be introducing dirt, and debris into your braking system and not allow it to work properly. Eventually, brake fluid does break down and need replacing. Brake fluid exchange service removes all the old brake fluid from your system and adds all fresh and new fluid to operate properly.
