2023 Jeep® Grand Cherokee vs. Volkswagen Atlas
If you’re in the market for a midsize SUV, but can’t figure out which one to get, we want to help. This handy guide matches up the 2023 Jeep® Grand Cherokee to the Volkswagen Atlas so you can see how they compare in several important areas.
Power
The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 293 horsepower and 257 lb-ft feet of torque. There’s also a 5.7-liter V8 that puts out 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque.
The base Volkswagen Atlas has a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder that only offers 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Even the available 3.6-liter V6 won’t match the base Jeep Grand Cherokee, as it has 276 horsepower.
Off-Road Ability
You’ll love what the Jeep Grand Cherokee can do on rugged terrain. In addition to four-wheel drive, you can get this new Jeep equipped with a limited slip differential, an adaptive suspension, and skid plates. The Volkswagen Atlas really has no off-road capability to speak of, and it’s only meant for paved roads.
Tech
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee has many built-in tech features, including:
- 4-inch touch screen
- Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™
- Satellite radio
- Wi-Fi hot spot
- Six-speaker audio system
- USB ports
- Bluetooth®
- Push-button start
This Jeep SUV can also come with a 10.25-inch front passenger-side touchscreen, wireless device charging, and a rear-seat entertainment system. The Volkswagen Atlas doesn’t come standard with satellite radio or wireless smartphone connectivity. Plus, its touchscreen is only 6.5 inches.
Safety
It’s always nice to know that your car will help keep you and your passengers safe, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with numerous standard safety components, including:
- Forward collision warning
- Forward automatic emergency braking
- Pedestrian and cyclist detection
- Stop-and-go adaptive cruise control
- Rearview camera
- Lane departure warning
- Lane keep assist
- Blind spot monitoring
- Rear cross-traffic alert
- Rear parking sensors
- Rear seat alert
While the Volkswagen Atlas has some of those, both lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control require an upgrade.
