 What’s New for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee?

Since its introduction in 1974, the Jeep Cherokee has seen drastic changes in design. It has evolved to meet the ever-changing needs of modern drivers. Today, the Cherokee is a popular compact crossover that’s more than capable of going off the beaten path. For 2019, Jeep has refreshed the Cherokee and included some welcome changes throughout. One of the first things you’ll notice about this year’s model is the new front-end. The new design features Jeep’s signature seven-slot grille surrounded by attractive chrome trim. To complement the change, new sleek headlights are included for a sportier appearance. LED lights are now standard as well. A modern front bumper helps to complete the new look. Other new additions to the exterior include a capless fuel filling system, five new wheel designs, and a lighter liftgate. The latter is also available with a powered upgrade as well.

The changes continue underneath the new aluminum hood. Jeep is offering one more engine option for the 2019 Cherokee. In addition to the inline-four engine that comes standard and the upgradeable V6, you can now get a 2.0-liter engine. It’s a turbocharged inline-four that’s capable of generating up to 270 horsepower and 295 pound-foot of torque. This new engine is engineered to provide better fuel economy and improved torque. It’s paired with the nine-speed automatic transmission system used with the other options. While it may seem similar, the transmission has been updated with new software for better performance. Minor changes are included to the interior of the Cherokee. Slight color differences on the soft-touch panels add some visual contrast to the overall interior design. The center console has also been changed to accommodate the new infotainment center. A 7-inch touch screen comes standard. This system uses the UConnect 4 software and has BlueTooth wireless capabilities. Compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also a standard feature. Higher trim levels offer a more robust system. They utilize an 8.4-inch touchscreen and are available with the UConnect 4C NAV system, which includes satellite radio, navigation, and much more.

New interior trim and seating options are also available for the 2019 Cherokee. Premium cloth and leather seats can now be accented with contrasting stitch colors like Storm Blue and Dark Sienna. A brand-new Trailhawk Elite trim package includes ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel among other things. When it comes to safety, the Cherokee is available with a number of active features that were available with previous builds. These include Blind Spot Monitoring, Parking Assist, and much more. Most of the features are available as an optional upgrade package. However, Jeep has also included one notable safety change for 2019. The available Adaptive Cruise Control feature can now work in dense traffic situations. It will bring the vehicle to a full stop and resume motion to follow the flow of traffic accordingly.
