2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee packs a lot more power following an engine upgrade from Chrysler's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) group.  Featuring a new 6.4 liter Hemi V-8 engine capable of unleashing 465 horsepower, Jeep officials say the 2012 model will be able to hit 60 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds, making it the most powerful Jeep ever! Control over that power is important, too, and straight-line performance has been improved through an active in-take manifold and high lift camshaft with cam phasing to deliver maximum low-end torque and optimal high-end power. In fact, 90 percent of the engine's peak torque is available between 2,800 and 6,000 rpm. Being able to halt all that force is a good thing, too, and the 2012 Grand Cherokee can go from 60 mph to 0 in 112 feet.

However, with an eye toward rising gas prices, engineers also concentrated on reducing fuel consumption during highway use by designing an active valve exhaust system that cuts out four cylinders. This makes the engine 13 percent more fuel efficient. When combined with the Grand Cherokee's large fuel tank, the SUV should be capable of ranging up to 450 miles on one fill up.

A smooth ride depends on driving conditions as much as it does on the vehicle. The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee allows drivers to select five different driving modes ? auto, sport, tow, track and snow. The Electronic Limited Slip Differential provides improved handling and eliminates rear wheel slip.

The Chrysler SRT package is not dedicated to power alone. The 2012 Grand Cherokee interior is built for comfort and style. The leather and suede seats feature sculpted bolsters and adjustable headrests to comfort daily drivers while also keeping themselves and passengers in those seats during more demanding trips.

The exterior has been given a facelift, featuring a larger grill and two air scoops on the hood. The central exhaust has been eliminated in favor of a more traditional dual exhaust system.

Aiming to be the ultimate performance SUV, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 combines power, performance and luxury with advanced innovative technology. The new model handles as well on the street and track as it does off road. Ready to unleash the powerful 6.4 liter Hemi engine, the vehicle also provides drivers with the tools to control that power.
